I can't believe Hudson is already one year old. Where in the world does the time go? Some days it feels like he was born years ago. Other days it seems like it was just last month. It's amazing how much he has grown and developed in these past 12 months… sitting up, crawling, eating table foods, talking, laughing, screaming, climbing stairs, and soon, walking.
He has so much personality, too, that it's hard to believe he really is only one, and he is so smart! He loves to look at books and be read to. He will sit and flip through them for quite a while before he's ready to move on to other things. He loves to repeat words and copy hand motions, especially smacking himself on the head and saying "bonk." And his first and favorite word to say is "No," which he learned a few weeks ago. No surprise there since he has five people watching his every move 24 hours a day! I always wonder what he really thinks of his three sisters… does he think they're funny, loud, annoying, over protective, entertaining? Probably all of the above and much more. He has also recently become addicted to his binky, which isn't a good thing most of the time. Like right now when he's supposed to be taking a nap, but is crying instead because he threw his binky out of the crib and now he wants it back.
I love bedtime with this boy because all you have to do is say, "night night" and he starts making kissing noises at everyone. It's way super cute! And he LOVES taking baths! He kicks his feet really fast to splash water everywhere. He gets so excited when he hears the faucet turn on and the water filling the tub.
Hudson's 1st birthday was lots of fun and uneventful all at the same time. We got a foot of snow the night before so they cancelled school and closed Ryan's office for the day - YAY! So we played outside in the snow most of the day, coming inside for the occasional cup of hot chocolate and snack - FUN! We also had some friends come over that afternoon to sled with us on our backyard hill - FUN!
So, I guess the uneventful part was that Hudson didn't go out in the snow at all, and slept most of the day. Sorry little guy! We did, however, take him out to Olive Garden for his birthday dinner that night once the roads were clear. Oh, and of course, the girls helped him tear open his gifts first thing in the morning. He got an outdoor swing, a new car seat, clothes, a set of trucks and an airplane, and a funny little press and go caterpillar toy that rolls by itself when you push it's back.
Hudson's first experience with birthday cake was not what I was expecting. I remember Ella just devouring her first birthday cake. Hudson on the other hand wanted nothing to do with it. He didn't like touching it and he didn't like the taste when I was finally able to get some in his mouth. Luckily the girls, who made the cake especially for him, had no trouble gobbling it all up for him. Ryan and I thought it necessary to help, too.
This little boy has brought so much joy and happiness into our home this past year. We are so lucky and blessed to have him as part of our family. We absolutely love him to pieces, and I love watching how each of us interact with him in our own individual ways.
The girls finally let Hudson open one of his own gifts without interference, and he thought it was so fun tearing the paper. Of course, Ryan and I had to practically pin all three girls down to keep them from "helping" him!...
Oh, it's an inchworm, not a caterpillar...
Sooooo many "helpers"(or should I say too many helpers?!) …
Yay!! His very own set of trucks/tractors. The wheels on these things are awesome! They roll so nice on any surface...
Ella used her Christmas money to buy Hudson this cute book...
Hudson will thank me one day for throwing away the first cake the girls made him… it was solid pink! We ended up making a sprinkle cake the second time around, with lots of blue frosting and gummy lifesaver candies on top as decoration (even though Hudson couldn't have any of those) ...
Hudson looks a little scared of his birthday cake. He must know how many little hands were touching it at one point...
One day, Hudson, you'll be able to tackle your sisters before they can open all of your birthday presents AND blow out your very first birthday candle...
This wasn't his worst facial expression of the night, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting either after a bite of sugary sweet cake ...
This little boy has grown so fast this past year. He's been off the charts for height all year long. At his one-year appointment he was 31 inches long, and weighed 22.6 pounds. He is a solid mass of boy ...
He is such a cutie pie. I love the dimple on his chin, his big brown eyes and killer eyelashes, those lips, his one ear that still bends funny from being smashed in the womb, the little mole on his forehead, and all those teeth. He's got four now with four more coming in...
He is very expressive. Man, those teeth are funny!...
