We had all three girls participating in the STEM fair this year and three super fun science projects. Ella and her partner, Paige, made Ghost Bubbles using water and dry ice. Brooklyn and her partner, Olivia, made Milk Art using milk, food coloring, and liquid soap. Kendall and her partner, Victoria, made Rainbow Carnations using carnation flowers, food coloring and water. All three projects were so different from each other and so interesting to learn about.
Making "Ghost Bubbles" = large soapy bubbles filled with the "smoke" made from placing the dry ice in water...
When the bubbles popped, the smoke looked like ghosts coming out of the bubble...
Kendall and Victoria's display board could have won for most colorful for sure. For their project, we placed white carnations in food coloring and water. The flower stems soaked up the water and turned the white flower petals the color of the water...
Brooklyn and Olivia learned that the enzymes in milk and the enzymes in liquid soap really like each other. When combined, the two liquids' enzymes will race to find each other. You can watch this happen by adding food coloring to the milk, then using a Q-tip covered in soap. The food coloring will disperse as the soap enzymes search for the milk enzymes. Kinda hard to explain, but really cool to watch happen...
For Ella and Paige's display, we left the iPad playing videos of the girls making their ghost bubbles. It was fun to be a fly-on-the-wall and hear people's reactions after watching the video. This experiment was pretty awesome and so fun for all my kiddos...
