Brooklyn Turns Seven

This year Brooklyn was all about planning her own birthday party. She came up with the idea of having a "drive-in" movie party (which was interesting since I don't think she's ever been to a drive-in before?). She picked out the invitations and helped me come up with a game plan for the party. She decided to invite only the girls from her classroom at school, plus a few other long-time friends.

I was amazed at all the giggles, screeches, laughter, jumping, hugging and smiles 15 girls can do within just a few minutes of arriving. Holy cow! It was like they hadn't seen each other in weeks, when really it was just yesterday they all sat in the same classroom together. It was absolutely so cute and funny to watch. Our house was full some very happy little girls.

As soon as the girls arrived - 16 girls total and one Hudson, that is - they picked out a box and began making their "cars" to drive to the drive-in movie theater. We had paper plates for wheels and steering wheels, lots of stickers, construction paper, tape, scissors, and a hot glue. I hung up pictures of examples I'd found on Pinterest to get their creative juices flowing. The girls were very excited and determined to make their cars super cute. We had some very original ideas.

Next, they drove their cars through the drive thru restaurant to order their dinner. On the menu (determined by the birthday girl) were hot dogs, grapes, carrot sticks, black olives, ranch dip, goldfish, and water bottles. The girls circled what they wanted on their menus, handed them to the chef, then drove downstairs to the movie theatre and played until their food was delivered to their cars.

Once everyone had their boxed up meal delivered, we started the movie. Brooklyn picked a movie none of us had ever seen, "The Pirate Fairy," and I borrowed a projector so we could show it on the wall nice and huge. The kids sat in their cars, ate dinner, and watched the movie while I set up the "concession stand."

About half way through the movie, I announced the concession stand was open with popcorn and treats. They all loaded up on salty sweet stuff then settled in for the rest of the flick (well most of them anyway). The last few minutes of the party we spent upstairs watching Brooklyn open her presents and waiting for parents to pick up.

The whole night was so much fun. Brooklyn was such an amazing party planner and came up with so many fun ideas, like putting up road signs and road lines on the floor leading from one room's activity to the next room's. She was also a most wonderful host to all of her many girlfriends, even when some of them were being little stinkers!! She also was so sweet when opening her presents. I'm so proud of her.

So, today my little Brooklyn is officially 7. Here is what this seven-year-old told me...

Favorite color - blue

Favorite food - Ramen noodle soup (can you believe she asked if we could have this for her birthday dinner tonight? Ummm, YES! Easy peasy!)

Favorite dessert - Little Brownie Bites (which she got as a birthday present. Who knew?)

When she grows up, Brooklyn would like to be a - spy

If she could go anywhere in the world today it would be - Arizona

Her favorite part about school is - Math (really?!)

The most significant thing that happened while she was six-years-old - losing five teeth

The most exciting thing about being seven so far - being the oldest in my Primary class

Her favorite thing about her birthday party last night - friends... and presents!

Brooklyn's 7-year-old doctor's visit was great. Her doctor called her a bean pole, then commented on her cute little athletic body. She's definitely skinny, but with muscle. She's become the most picky eater on the planet, too, which isn't helping beef her up any. The doctor put her on a strict ice cream diet! =-)

Last year, Brooklyn grew three inches and gained seven pounds. This year, she grew another three inches and gained just three pounds. She's growing like a weed. The doctor said she looks perfect, and the only concern was her eyesight, but said we should keep an eye on it over the next few months.

Height - 48.75 inches (66th percentile)
Weight - 47.12 pounds (34th percentile)

What else can I say about little Miss B? Well, she's energetic, especially at night when Ryan and I are TRYING to get everyone to bed. She makes more trips to the school nurse in one week then she has body parts to injure. She can be very helpful when asked, has an extreme love for her little brother, makes huge messes in her room and closet, still loves picking out her own unique combination of clothes, has become extremely picky with what she eats, can read amazingly well now, loves sports and running and more running, has been nicknamed "toothless," eats way too many apples a day, and loves to say prayers. I can't imagine how dull our lives would be without this little ball of energy (or how quiet and peaceful sometimes =-) I love you so much, girlfriend (that one's for you Ryan!)

Some of our movie-goers building their cars...

The birthday girl REALLY wanted everyone to wear their PJs to the party. Sure, why not, my dear!...

Lots of girls, lots of construction paper, lots of tape, glue, stickers, scissors, and giggles...

Waiting in line for Ryan to work his magic on each box (he cut out the bottoms so they could walk with them)...

At the drive-in movie (aka, the basement). The projector was AWESOME!...

The girls spent a lot of time decorating their cars, but it's hard to see their handiwork from these iPhone pictures...

The girls were giddy when they saw the treats at the concession stand...

The aftermath of car making. It looked much worse in person than these pictures show. It was super fun cleaning it all up! =-)...

There's nothing Brooklyn likes more than being surrounded by girlfriends and presents...

After lunch today, we let Brooklyn open her family gifts. Hudson gave her a box of princess bandaids (for obvious reasons), Ella gave her a flying ball, and Kendall gave her My Little Pony...

Brooklyn's sweet cousin Abby sent her this super cute card...

Grandma and Grandpa Asay gave Brooklyn a Push Pin Pillow craft and this totally awesome Boogie Board. I've got to get one for each my kiddos! Even I've used it already...

Sugar gave her these walkie-talkies. They'll be perfect for backyard exploring!...

Ryan and I gave her a venus flytrap. I know, but she REALLY wanted it. In fact, her Primary teacher at church told me that when Brooklyn said the prayer in their class today, she said, "Dear Heavenly Father, please bless that my mom gets me a venus fly trap." She learned about them in a Judy Moody book we read together. See, books really do change lives!...

And, of course, counting out her seven dollar bills from GG and GPA Pomeroy...
