Here's my hope for my girls this school year...
Ella, that she will continue to love learning new things and continue to think outside of the box, to reach her goal of reading every book in her classroom library, not to let certain unfavorable people in her class get the best of her, and to make some good, long-term girlfriends (and keep those great boy friends).
Brooklyn, that she will continue to be Miss Social (and stick with those good friends she has made so far), to have another year of outstanding classroom behavior (pennies or not), to up the ante on her math and reading skills, to find great new uses for all of her energy, and learn to tame her verbal frustrations and demands.
Kendall, that she will make some really great new friends in her new school, she will learn to eat lunch without help in the cafeteria, that she will learn her way around the school without getting lost, she will love riding the bus with her sisters, she will learn how to focus, listen, and follow her teachers' instructions, and that she will learn how to stay awake the whole school day.
And, even though Hudson is another year from starting pre-school, these are some of my hopes for the time the two of us will get to spend together this year... sign up for some fun classes (music, gym, karate?), play and throw rocks in the creek as long as the weather permits, learn the names of all the sports balls we have in the garage and learn the proper way to use them all, discover new places, and help me with my chores at home. =-)
At the school's open house yesterday, Kendall met her teacher for the first time, we got to look around her classroom, and meet some of her new classmates. I'm going to miss having her home and so is Hudson...
We found her name on the frog board...
Brooklyn couldn't wait to meet Mrs. Hanna, who has been on maternity leave for the past two years. She's super nice and young. I think she'll be a great fit for Brooklyn...
We can't stop hearing enough great things about Ella's teacher Mrs. Lopez. Even our neighbor's, whose kids are in college now, all said Mrs. Lopez was their kids' favorite teacher. We can't wait to get to know Mrs. Lopez better this year...
We woke up this morning to fog so thick we couldn't see the trees in the backyard. Thank goodness it cleared up a bit just in time for first-day-of-school pictures this morning before the girls had to jump on the bus. Unfortunately, the fog and humidity didn't help the girls' hair much, which I curled and flat ironed all morning, thank you very much. Ella is starting to think these pictures are totally ridiculous (well, the dumb signs don't help matters, I suppose)...
One more wish for Kendall this year is for her to realize all of the many things she can become when she grows up. So far, she's wanted to be a mermaid or fairy for the past two years. Not that being a mermaid or water fairy is a bad option, it's just that Ryan and I have bigger dreams for her...
Brooklyn took her cue from Kendall this morning on the mermaid and fairy bit, but what Brooklyn really wants to be when she grows up (at least what she's always talking about becoming) is a spy. I find this quite funny because there is no human on earth as loud as this one. But if anyone can do it, Brooklyn can! =-) ...
Three in school, one more to go...
New outfits, new backpacks, new teachers... look out cause here they come...
It's just me and you now, buddy...
At the bus stop and ready to send the girls off for another great year...
Today was more of an orientation or trial run for Kendall. We went to school together for an hour where we learned about the classroom schedule and Kendall took a practice bus ride. Tomorrow she'll go a full day with just half of her class. Friday she'll stay home while the other half go to school. Then her whole class will go together starting Tuesday. It's complicated, but it's to help introduce them slowly to going to school. Kendall was a little shy in the classroom, but was excited about the "kindergarten survival kit" her teacher gave her...
During rug time, they sang a song, played a ball/letter game, and read a book...
