4th of July and Butterflies

It was another unusual year for us not being with my family at our cabin in Arizona for the Fourth of July. We made the best of it and went to the Trenton Thunder game, where the kids and I spent most of the game standing in line for snacks and treats. We stayed after the game to see the great fireworks show and to feel the patriotic spirit that comes with celebrating this amazing country where we are so very blessed to live! I couldn't be more grateful to the men and women who made such incredible sacrifices! Thank You!!

We ordered Painted Lady butterfly eggs from InsectLore and had a fun time watching them transform into larvae, chrysali, and then butterflies over the past few weeks. It's such an amazing process and one we all loved. After a few days of holding and playing with the butterflies in our powder bathroom with the door closed, it was time to let eight of the ten butterflies free. Two of the butterflies would not have survived in the 'real world' because neither could fly. One of them had only one and a half wings (we named him Nemo), and the other one's wings never properly unfurled once it emerged from it's chrysalis. They were still mostly rolled up making it impossible for it to fly...

The kids held the butterflies as long as they could before the butterflies took flight...
