San Diego Here We Come!

It's been a long, frustrating year to try and buy a house out in San Diego... but guess what?! We finally got a house! And, to say it was a miracle is an understatement! Here's why...

Months ago, Ryan got an email from one of his new co-workers. She somehow put two and two together and realized we were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She said she lived next door to a "Mormon" growing up and thought Ryan should reach out to him.

Ryan put it off for a long time because 1. to call up a random person is weird. 2. this co-worker's neighbor didn't even live in the area we were looking to buy a house. And 3. Ryan thought it was a waste of time. But, he eventually called him anyway because his co-worker followed up with Ryan and he felt bad he hadn't done it yet.

After a nice conversation, that Mormon neighbor happened to know the Mormon Super Intendant in the school district we were looking to buy a house and thought Ryan should call him to get an idea of the best schools in his district.

So, Ryan called the Mormon Super Intendant and had another great conversation with him. The Super Intendant knew the Area Seventy member over our area and thought Ryan should call him to see what the best Wards were in the area we were looking.

So, Ryan called the Area Seventy member who asked where we were looking and our price range. Ryan told him that his favorite neighborhood in the area was Ivy Gate, but that there had only been one house for sale in that neighborhood the past year and we were outbid by a long shot. The Area Seventy said, "I have a friend in that neighborhood who is moving to Arizona and is selling their house off-market so it's not listed on MLS. Give him a call and find out their plans."

So, Ryan called the Ivy Gate people and, sure enough, they were selling their house, off-market, but had another interested buyer already. Ryan gave them his number and said to call if it fell through. Well, it did and we started the process of buying the house.

It's been absolutely crazy since then. Within days we had a Zoom walk-through of the house. A few days later, I flew out to San Diego, met my mom and Jim there, and we toured the house in person. Lots of document signing and inspections later, and we have a house!

We are so grateful and so excited to finally have a plan moving forward after a year of holding tight. While I wouldn't trade this past year for anything, we feel very blessed to have found the right house for us in the right neighborhood, in the right school district, and in what we hope will be a fantastic Ward. It will be hard for all of us to say goodbye to our house, friends, neighbors, church members, etc., but we are hoping and praying our move to CA will be a blessing as well.
