Pioneers for Halloween?

Well, not intentionally, but that's what it felt like when the "Super Storm" aka Hurricane Sandy blew in to town and cut off our electricity for almost a week. Our little boro became a ghost town Monday night until Saturday when the power came back on. Even most of our neighbors gave up on living with no electricity, and went to stay with family, friends, or at hotels. We decided to stick it out here in our nice FREEZING house and I'm glad we did. The girls absolutely LOVED not having electricity, which I already knew they would from past experience, and I loved some parts of it, too. I also learned a lot about living without electricity for five days and feel a new-found appreciation and respect for pioneers.

Since the power was out, Halloween was pretty much cancelled. We took the girls to three or four houses but that was it. Luckily, before the power went out, we got to go to our church's trunk-or-treat party as well as a fun family party at our friends' house. So, the girls got to wear their costumes and collected plenty of junk food to be content.

Trick-or-treating was even smaller this year than usual, but the kids were more than happy with the loot they get from just the few houses they visited. Kendall is a white fairy, Brooklyn is a Reniassance princess and Ella is an Egyptian princess...

Two houses down Tom and Gail Posey always have handfuls of candy for these three...

With the power outage it was hard to tell if people were home or not, including the Gallagher's!!...

Our family of pumpkins all lit up for the night... the ONLY source of light at our house...

Looks like Ella woke up early to raid the candy stash. She's trying to claim innocence here, but I'm not buying it. She even put on gloves to hide the fingerprints. Smart girl! ...
