Pumpkin Picking 2014

After soccer games Saturday morning, we headed off to Styer Orchard for a hayride out to the pumpkin patch to pick this year's pumpkins. This takes a while because some of the kids are VERY selective when it comes to pumpkin picking. Once everyone made their selection and the pumpkins were bought, we stopped off at the bouncy house before heading to lunch at the Corner Bakery.

At home, we pulled out the knifes, spoons, paper towels and garbage bags and went to work carving jack-o-lanterns. We still have some pumpkin slime-squirmy kids, so the process of removing the insides was just that… a process. Brooklyn did her best using a spoon to a certain point and then needed adult help. Hudson totally freaked when Ryan put his hand inside his pumpkin - we may have damaged him for life. Ella didn't mind the pumpkin slime at all, so she and Ryan were the master carvers for the day.

Everyone took a different approach to carving this year. Kendall and I took the easy route - I glued felt cut-outs on mine, and Kendall used "Mrs. Pumpkin Head" things my mom sent Ella for her 2nd Halloween a million years ago (which are AWESOME!). Ella and Ryan carved their own faces. Brooklyn and Hudson got some much needed help from Ryan. They all turned out so cute.

We put them outside Saturday night and so far they haven't been eaten. Fingers crossed they make it to Halloween night!

Ella always gets the big ones. As long as she can carry it, it's hers…
 Hudson found his…
Brooklyn couldn't stop hugging her pumpkin. I hope it realized how much it was loved - before we stuck a knife in it…
