Horseback Riding Camp

The week Sugar and Jim left for Arizona, the three girls started horseback riding camp at a local stable. They leaned so much about horses - the different types, saddles, bridles, care, grooming, feeding, safety, etc. - not to mention several different riding positions. Our stable uses English saddles, rather than Western, so that was weird for me, and probably took some time for the girls to get used to.

Along with horse-related stuff, the kids crafted, ate lunch and just had fun with the other campers. The weather couldn't have been more perfect for them for those five days, either.

On Friday, parents were invited to the "horse show." Each camper in the group was graded on three different skills and was then awarded a ribbon. I'm proud to say we got nearly every color of ribbon they had, except yellow.  We'll try again next year.

My little winners...

Sugar and Hudson hanging out on the tractor while I get the girls signed in...

Ella and Brooklyn learning how to hose down the pony...

Kendall's taking her horse for a ride...

I think this position is call the four-point position? Don't quote me on that...

Brooklyn riding bare back...

Ella thinks she's mastered this horse thing...

Our first ribbon of the show is FIRST place! Yay Ella...

Holding the ribbons during show time was just the right thing for this helpful brother...

Kendall gets second place...

Keep those colorful ribbons coming Brooklyn...

Hudson decided he'd better start reading up on the various horse breeds so he's ready for camp in a few years...
