Wilkes Barre/Hickory Run State Park

For our last free weekend before school starts up again, we took the kids to Wilkes Barre and Hickory Run State Park where we hiked, swam, and ate. We also made a short trip up to the Priesthood Restoration site.

Hiking in Hickory Run...

Those crazy eyes of Hudson...

Kendall working on her Laurie Hernandez pose (the one she uses at the start of her floor routine) outside Outback Steakhouse...

Outside the Priesthood Restoration Site visitor's center. You can barely see the statues in the background of Joseph Smith receiving the priesthood...

While Joseph Smith was translating the Book of Mormon, he and his new wife Emma, lived with Emma's family in this house...

Joseph and Emma moved to this house three months later where Joseph continued the translation...

Joseph and Emma lost something like seven babies throughout their lives. Their first baby, who died June 15, 1424, is buried here at the Restoration Site, as well as Emma's parents. This is the baby's original gravestone surrounded by new granite for preservation...

This is the spot on the Susquehanna River where Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry were baptized...

On Saturday, we went back to Hickory Run to climb across Boulder Field, which was formed from receding glaciers...

Afterwards, we swam at Sand Spring Lake, where Brooklyn and Kendall made a huge pile of lake grass and moss on the beach that attracted several onlookers...

It was pouring rain on our last day in town, but that didn't stop us from hiking the Seven Tubs, which was absolutely beautiful. We had a fun hike despite being soaking wet the whole time...
