Kendall's "Birthday Party"

We threw Kendall the most elaborate first birthday party ever the other night... just kidding. But Ella and Brooklyn had just as much fun helping with the decorations, picking out and wrapping her birthday gifts, baking and frosting her cake, and singing her happy birthday as if it was the most elaborate birthday party ever. That's what's so great about this age... the simplest things are just as much fun.

Instead of an elaborate birthday party, we had a nice, quiet family party here at the house where Ella and Brooklyn could be as loud and silly as they wanted, Kendall could be as messy and loud as she wanted, I could be as obnoxious with my camera as I wanted, and Ryan could wear a birthday hat and not feel totally humiliated! That's a good party to me!

The Cake...
Ella and Brooklyn took cake decorating quite seriously. Gummy lifesavers around the edge of the cake and then around the #1 birthday candle in the middle. Brooklyn helped me make the cake and Ella decided on the frosting color (pink of course) and helped with the application.

Kendall loved the cake and the little gummy candies around it. She knew exactly what to do with it, too. She stuck her hands it in and when to work gobbling it all up.
Good messy fun.
She looks gorged.
The Gifts...
The gifts were hilarious, as were their wrappings. Ella made Kendall a necklace out of an old Valentines Day heart necklace she got last year. She put it in a clear golf ball box and wrapped it herself. Brooklyn chopped up a piece of paper into tiny little pieces using my paper cutter and then stapled them all together into a little book - "Kendall's first notebook" she said. She wrapped her gift in an Good Season's Italian Salad Dressing mix box taken from the recycling bin. Ryan and I gave Kendall music classes at Kids' Music Round, so I wrapped up a musical instrument in the recycled cake mix box. My mom gave Kendall a membership to the Please Touch Museum, which the girls wrapped in a recycled box (sorry mom. I know you would have done something much cuter, but the girls were on a roll). The cute, and nicely wrapped gifts came from Clark and Christy. They sent Kendall a fun little blanket with all sorts of fun things to play with on the corners, a soft box that has goodies hidden inside and some new little books.

The Decorations...
This was the extent of our decorating, but we had fun re-fluffing the tissue paper pom-poms we used for Brooklyn's 2nd birthday party.

The Birthday Girl and Party Guests...
Kendall didn't quite know what was going on. I think she thought we were crazy because of all of the singing, dancing, and kissing we were giving her all day long. She did not understand the idea of opening gifts and left it in Ella and Brooklyn's hands to take care of for her.
Lovin' it, hun!
Brooklyn... in her favorite winter dress.
Even Darly got to come to the party as Ella's special guest.
Happy Birthday little girl!
