Swim Lessons

The girls finished their big two weeks worth of swim lessons at our community pool yesterday. Ya, you can't learn much in two weeks, especially when the teachers are high school students who could care less if the kids even get in the water. In fact, I had to beg Brooklyn's teacher to actually dunk her head under the water, which the teacher finally did after a week and a half. So much for getting that little girl to swim this summer.

Brooklyn did make a few improvements, like using her "ice cream scoop" hands and arms and learning how to kick. Ella did great, too. She learned breast stroke and how to dive off the side of the pool. She will advance to the next level next summer... however, Brooklyn has to repeat level 1. Surprise, surprise. Apparently getting your head wet is a big deal when swimming. =-)
On the last day of lessons, the girls got to go down the slide (Brooklyn went down with her teacher, Ella went down by herself for the first time). Ella also got to go off the diving board. They both earned their certificates and a sucker.
Kendall can't wait to start swim lessons. She LOVES the water and is constantly crawling over to the edge of the pool and trying to get in. I finally decided to strap her into the stroller and walk her around the pool. Nice teeth girlfriend!
This picture is a little deceiving. Brooklyn's teacher is hugging her, but Brooklyn is really hanging on for dear life - not hugging back. Brooklyn is not super fond of the water - terrified, in fact. She did loosen up a little and actually walked on the bottom of the pool, floated on her back with some assistance, and hung on to the side of the pool to practice her kicks. Pretty good Miss Brooklyn - baby steps, right?! P.S. This teacher LOVED Brooklyn and asked if she could babysit her sometime.
Ella was an elephant as she was jumping into the pool.
As long as Brooklyn's head was above the water, she was okay.
