Fall soccer season is in full force and this time around Ella and Brooklyn are on FIRE! I can't believe these are the same two girls! They are totally in to it and Ryan and I couldn't be happier (and more proud) at how well they are both doing!
If you remember from previous seasons and older posts, Brooklyn never really "played" soccer when she was out there on the field. The first problem was the uniform - she didn't like it because the girl DOES NOT wear shorts! When we figured out she would do better wearing a tutu over her soccer shorts, she kinda cooperated a little more. However, even then she really just jogged around the field, never once touching the ball. It wasn't until her last game in her second season of playing that the coach made sure each and every child on the team scored a goal. That was her first goal and the first time her foot made contact with the ball, I think.
Fast forward six months... First game of this season and Brooklyn comes out running! She had almost total control of the soccer ball for MOST of the game, and would you believe the girl scored FIVE goals! She was the star of the game! I was SHOCKED! I text Ryan (who was watching Ella's game on another field) and asked him what kind of pep talk he gave her before the game. He said he told her she wouldn't have to play another season of soccer again if she played her very best this whole season. Okay, not sure I liked that means of motivation, but it totally worked!
Since that first game Brooklyn has scored at least four goals at every game and has been so aggressive - driving the ball to the goal and stealing it away from the other team (and her teammates - we're working on that)! It's like she's a totally different child and it's so fun to watch her get into the game!
Ella, too, has found her groove on the soccer field. She's always played well in the five seasons she's been playing, but she's always wanted to play goalie. This year they actually have goalies, and Ella's good at it! She jumps, she dives, she catches, and she tackles the ball if it gets even 10 feet near her goal. She's in her element! It's hilarious! Heaven forbid if any of the other kids on her team want to play goalie!
It's been such a fun season already - watching Ella and Brooklyn FINALLY get into the game is awesome! I hope they keep it up cause it's so much fun to watch them... even if it is only 36 degrees outside.
Ella and Brooklyn's #1 fan (as long as she has food).
This is how cold it was. Ella has on a long sleeve shirt, jersey, fleece hoodie, snow coat, gloves, scarf and hat. She's ready for snow!
Can you see Ella on the far left of the picture?
Take it on down to the goal, Miss Brooklyn!
Brooklyn has become one of the best players on her team. She hardly got to sit out this game cause the coach's daughter refused to play. She kept saying she wanted to go to the playground instead. It was hilarious.
She shoots, she scores! Yahoo Brooklyn!
